Entry for Artfol competition 2025 Theme: Déjà Vu Maximum 10 panels on single page of maximum 1:3 aspect ratio For posting on instagram, I split up the single page into 3 pages. Hotel Déjà The inspiration for “Hotel Déjà” came from the curious fact that in several languages, such as Japanese, Korean and Arabic, there is no “v” sound. The “v” is replaced with a “b” sound. So “vu” in “Déjà vu” becomes “bu”. Or, in this one-page manga: “BOO!” Thinking about hallways in hotels, motels and apartment complexes, recollect instances where the elevator takes us to a different floor and yet it feels like we have been thru that hallway before. Probably, in a hotel, all the hallways look very similar. Sometimes, I’ve wandered off the elevator on the wrong floor based on looking outside when the doors open instead of verifying that it is the actual floor I wanna get off on. Combining these 2 ideas, a reluctant sister chaperones her lil brother to a costume party at “Hotel Déjà”.
