In a stifling and bleak summer, the young Piero earns a living by selling parrots, a worthless job that barely earns him five thousand Lire. When he meets Francesco, an elegant and reserved man, he gives him one of his birds, unaware that this act of unexpected kindness has just sealed his fate.
