In the far future, memories of Earth have become fairy-tales. Humanity, scattered across the stars, was living in tribal Dark Ages, until the Empire stepped in. Lead by the immortal Emperor Alan Links, the Empire has been trying to preserve what it could from the humanity's past, and elevate the scattered species from the Dark Ages into a new common project. The Empire is governed by a cast of clones, recreated form the remnants of the humanity's best representatives from Earth's past. Each colony governs itself under the Imperial law, clones providing the general oversight, control of military, and education. Not needing luxury or entertainment, clones provide for the colonies on condition, that the colonies themselves will grow and stand on their feet some day. However, as every system, it has its drawbacks and weaknesses, that accumulate over time. What originally worked, later becomes an obstacle.
