On a small farm in Texas, 21-year-old Luken lives peacefully with his mother, Mrs. Schmidt, his younger siblings—Noah, Aby, and Jake—and their newly found dog, Steve.
Following the death of Luken's father, the family struggles with both grief and mounting financial hardships. Determined to support them, Luken makes the difficult decision to enlist in the Vietnam War, fully aware of the possibility that he might not return home.
